From the Stroll of Excellence path, guests can peer instantly into the attention of Willie the Whale—no marine biology diploma required. Although not towering like a skyscraper, Willie nonetheless stands a formidable 16 toes tall.
Kokomo, Indiana, is residence to a number of distinctive items of public artwork, and Willie has earned his place amongst them. Created in 1964, Willie has been “beached” in Foster Park alongside Wildcat Creek since 2019. His title might have been impressed by a 1946 Disney quick movie, The Whale Who Needed to Sing on the Met, although this connection is unconfirmed, the 2 Willies differ in look and coloring.
Over time, Willie has traveled round central Indiana, showing on the previous Indianapolis Zoo, a miniature golf course, and a water park. The Metropolis of Kokomo finally acquired him from Rushville, Indiana.
At the moment, Willie sits dry-docked in Foster Park, only a quick stroll throughout the bridge from the Kokomo Seaside Household Aquatic Heart. He continues to thrill guests of all ages along with his playful presence.
