EAGAN, Minn. — Linebacker Anthony Barr is planning to retire after spending most of his profession with the Minnesota Vikings, in response to a social media post from his Elevate the Barr group.
Barr, 33, final performed in 2023. He has not but commented on the choice.
The Vikings made Barr the No. 9 total choose of the 2014 draft, their first choice after hiring defensive-minded Mike Zimmer as their head coach. Barr match the kind of versatile off-ball linebacker Zimmer thought-about important for his scheme.
He burst onto the scene as a rookie with 4 sacks, 70 tackles and three fumble recoveries — together with one he returned for a landing — in 12 video games. Regardless of struggling by means of a number of accidents over his tenure, Barr performed in 98 video games over 10 seasons with the Vikings from 2014-21.
Over his profession, he totaled 554 tackles, compelled eight fumbles and intercepted 5 passes in 116 video games.
The Vikings fired Zimmer after the 2021 season, and Barr moved on to spend 2022 with the Dallas Cowboys. He returned to Minnesota late within the 2023 season, showing in 4 video games, and didn't play in 2024.
