US rejects India’s request for WTO session on 50% copper tariffs

New Delhi: The US has rejected India's request for consultations on the WTO on Washington's 50% tariffs on copper and copper spinoff merchandise, arguing the tariffs should not safeguard measures as indicated by New Delhi.

It informed the WTO that there was “no foundation” for India to conduct consultations.

Earlier this month, India sought consultations with the US beneath the WTO settlement on safeguards.
That is the third case of India in search of such consultations with the US and Washington refusing – after metal and aluminium, and vehicles and auto parts.
