On the island of Kalsoy stands a statue that, based on native legend, has cursed the city of Mikladalur.
The legend goes that seals have been as soon as human and yearly on the twelfth day after Christmas at nightfall, they arrive ashore, shed their skins and experience human type till dawn, the place they don their seal skins once more and return to the ocean.
One fisherman from Mikladalur, having heard this legend, hid behind a big rock and noticed the transformation. He notably seen one who remodeled into a gorgeous younger lady.
Out of want, the younger fisherman stole her pores and skin and waited for them to return to the water. The opposite seals, together with her mate, watched on in horror because the fisherman approached her, carrying her pores and skin.
From that second, she was sure to him, so long as he had her pores and skin. They married and had kids however she chafed beneath her new lot in life. Nonetheless, sooner or later the fisherman forgot to lock the chest her pores and skin was secured in, and whereas he was out within the boat, she left him and their kids behind, rejoining her household within the sea.
Time handed, however his fury didn’t subside, and even after she begged him to not assault her household, he and the villagers organized a seal hunt, slaughtered her mate and their younger seal pups after which ate them.
The seal lady returned to the village as a banshee, and cursed the villagers and their descendants, telling them that their drowned would be capable to maintain palms and dance across the island by the point her curse ends.
