Oscar Piastri conceded that his request for McLaren group orders “wouldn't have been truthful” to team-mate Lando Norris, after the Australian's 10-second penalty for a security automotive infringement successfully handed over Formulation 1 British Grand Prix victory.
The F1 world championship chief noticed his benefit trimmed to eight factors by shedding the win in Silverstone to Norris, after he braked down Hangar Straight on lap 21 simply because the lights went out on the protection automotive to sign a restart.
The transfer noticed Max Verstappen narrowly miss colliding with the McLaren driver and by accident overtake him. The FIA stewards judged Piastri was driving erratically behind the protection automotive so slapped him with a 10-second penalty.
After pitting from the lead and serving his penalty, and returning to the monitor behind Norris, Piastri requested the group to implement group orders. “I do not assume the penalty earlier than was particularly reasonable. I do know it is a massive query, however in case you do not assume it was truthful both, I believe we should always swap again and race,” he stated on the group radio. His race engineer, Tom Stallard, later knowledgeable him that McLaren wouldn't be issuing a swap.
“I assumed I might ask the query,” Piastri advised reporters, when requested concerning the request after the race. “I knew what the reply was going to be earlier than I requested, however I simply wished a small glimmer of hope that perhaps I may get it again. However no, I knew it wasn't going to occur.”

“It clearly hurts in the mean time. It is a completely different damage although, as a result of I do know I deserved much more than what I received at the moment. I drove a very robust race, and when you do not get the outcome you assume you deserve, it hurts, particularly when it isn't in your management.”
Piastri congratulated Norris instantly after the race, however didn't acknowledge his team-mate all through the post-race press convention. Slightly, he tried to shift the dialog to Nico Hulkenberg, who lastly stood on an F1 podium after 239 race begins.
“I've a query for Nico: how does it really feel after 15 years of F1 to get on the rostrum, and the trophy is made out of LEGO which you could pull aside?” Piastri requested, to which the Sauber driver responded: “I really like LEGO. It is good, my daughter can play with it. You are at all times going to see the intense aspect, however a little bit of silver or gold would have been good too.”
