The deceased has been recognized as Orivel Tinumg a resident of Tapat village below Donka sub-division of West Karbi Anglong. The conflict reportedly erupted when a bunch from Meghalaya's West Jaintia Hills' Lapangap allegedly started harvesting paddy, prompting opposition from Tapat villagers.
The disputed area has witnessed simmering tensions over paddy harvesting for months.
Assam's Border Safety and Growth Minister Atul Bora convened a departmental overview assembly on the implementation of the Annual Motion Plan for FY 2025–26.
Bora later posted on social media, “Lasting peace and stability alongside inter-state border areas will enormously profit folks on each side and pave the best way for accelerated improvement.” Each states declare possession of the world.
Meghalaya refers to it as Block I and asserts historic claims over the land, whereas it's administered by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) in Assam.
