This little hidden gem is a gaggle of bushes alongside the east fringe of the Howard County Fairgrounds. The bushes had been born from seeds that traveled 1.8 million miles round planet Earth on the area shuttle Atlantis in 1988 as a 4-H undertaking by the Purdue College Extension!
The plaque on the base of the sycamore tree reads as follows:
Tree Seed had been flown aboard america Area Shuttle, ATLANTIS, December 2, 1988 to December 6, 1988, for Indiana County 4-H Golf equipment.
Launching from the Kennedy Area Heart, Florida, Atlantis accomplished 68 orbits, touring 1.8 million miles earlier than touchdown on the Rogers Dry Lakebed, at Edwards Air Power Base in California.
