The Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹62,370 crore contract with HAL to produce 97 LCA Tejas Mk1A plane to the Indian Air Power, together with 68 fighters and 29 twin seaters. Deliveries will start in 2027-28. The superior Mk1A variant, with over 64% indigenous content material, will function programs like Swayam Raksha Kavach and indigenous management actuators. Designed for air defence, maritime reconnaissance, and strike roles, the Tejas will change the ageing MiG-21 fleet, strengthening the IAF's fight functionality as squadron numbers fall under sanctioned ranges.
