The districts given ‘orange alert' are Idukki, Kannur and Kasaragod, the India Meteorological Division mentioned.
Pathanamthitta, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts got ‘yellow alert' for the day, it added.
An ‘orange alert' denotes “very heavy” rainfall of 11 to twenty cm, whereas a ‘yellow alert' alerts “heavy rain” between 6 and 11 cm.
The IMD additional mentioned that thunderstorms with mild to average rainfall and gusty winds of speeds reaching 40 kmph have been prone to happen in varied elements of the state.
It mentioned {that a} cyclonic circulation was current over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining north Kerala coast on account of which heavy rainfall and robust winds have been doubtless in some elements of the state between October 11 and 15.
