Established beneath the aegis of Ministry of Schooling, Authorities of India, and led by Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director, IIT Guwahati, the “Manekshaw Centre” is working in direction of next-gen training, innovation, productization, manufacturing and research-based consulting/operations.
To help the initiative, a high-level delegation lately briefed Schooling Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan on the institution of a Nodal Facilities in Indian Premier Institutes devoted for Defence and Nationwide Safety Analysis.
Talking in regards to the initiative, Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director, IIT Guwahati, mentioned, “Manekshaw Middle will act as an interface between Indian Academia and defence forces. IITs, IISc, IIITs and NITs would be the members of the centre. The centre will periodically perform dialogs with protection businesses and can take part actively to outline and design methods for Indian safety wants. It should work in direction of discovering Indian options thus fulfilling the aspiration of Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
Highlighting the necessity of inter-institutional collaborations, Schooling Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan expressed robust help for the initiative. He underlined the Ministry's dedication to supporting the Manekshaw Centre in constructing a strong innovation ecosystem that brings academia, defence, armed forces, safety businesses and industries collectively to handle the evolving challenges of nationwide safety.
Aligning with the Authorities of India's Atmanirbhar Bharat mission, this visionary initiative will unite IITs, IISc, IIITs, and NITs on a collaborative educational and analysis platform targeted on defence expertise and nationwide safety.
The concept of establishing this nodal centre for collaboration amongst IITs was conceived by Lt. Gen. Dr. Subrata Saha (Retd.), and Prof. Sukumar Nandi, Dean of Administration, IIT Guwahati. At the moment the Manekshaw Centre consists of, IITs: Guwahati, Madras, Kanpur, Jodhpur, Dharwad, Delhi, Bombay, Kharagpur, BHU-Varanasi, ISM-Dhanbad, IISc Bangalore and IIIT Delhi.
Established in March 2025, IIT Guwahati's MCoENSSR is working in direction of bridging the hole between Defence Forces, Safety Businesses, and Educational & Analysis Establishments that may allow convergence of strategic imaginative and prescient, operational excellence, and technological experience to strengthen nationwide safety.
Different key targets of the centre embody, create a new-age Safety Industrial Advanced/Ecosystem to advertise Govt. of India's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative to “win India's wars with Indian options”. Collaborate with start-ups, trade companions, international institutes to attain increased expertise readiness degree and cater the necessities of the Indian Armed Forces and Safety Businesses and Organise Dialogue Collection, Workshops, Seminars, Ideathons, Convention with Indian Armed Forces and different key nationwide safety stakeholders on new-age nationwide safety challenges, next-gen uneven hybrid non-contact warfare, futuristic applied sciences.
