The Items and Companies Tax Council will start its two-day assembly on Wednesday to take up sweeping reforms of the oblique tax construction, launched eight years in the past.

Termed a ‘Diwali present' by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day tackle, the Centre's proposal to reform GST is geared toward lowering the tax burden on the widespread man and easing compliance for companies.
