Oscar Piastri was visibly indignant as he eliminated his helmet after a difficult British Grand Prix, ending second behind his team-mate Lando Norris, because the Australian was given a 10-second penalty for erratic braking behind the protection automobile.
On lap 21, behind the second security automobile of what was a chaotic race at Silverstone, the Australian driver appeared to brake closely on the Hangar Straight, leading to complaints from Crimson Bull driver Max Verstappen immediately behind him. The Dutchman was greatly surprised by the sudden deceleration as he swerved to keep away from Piastri's gearbox.
“Whoa, mate ****, he simply all of the sudden slows down once more,” Verstappen radioed to his workforce, which Piastri was later given a expensive 10-second penalty by the FIA stewards. Taking it throughout his remaining pitstop, Piastri was handed by Norris, who completed on the highest step of the rostrum.
Talking to Jenson Button immediately after the race, Piastri was clearly agitated: “Yeah, I am not gonna say a lot. I am going to get myself in hassle, so… nicely performed, to Hulkenberg. I believe that is the spotlight of the day, so… yeah, I am going to depart it there.”
He was pressed additional on the incident.
“Yeah, I imply, apparently you may't brake behind the protection automobile anymore. I imply, I did it for 5 laps earlier than that and… once more, I am not gonna say an excessive amount of ‘trigger I am going to get myself in hassle.

“However due to the group for an amazing occasion. Thanks for sticking via the climate. I nonetheless like Silverstone, even when I do not prefer it as we speak – so thanks for popping out.”
The dialog continued within the cooldown as Piastri defined the penalty to Nico Hulkenberg.
“I received a 10-second penalty for braking behind the protection automobile. I hit the brakes principally because the lights went out on the protection automobile, so then I did not speed up, and apparently that will get you a 10-second penalty.”
Piastri had dominated the race up till that time, taking the lead from Max Verstappen who began from pole and had been in search of his fifth win this season. However whereas he drove a commanding race, his efforts have been in the end thwarted.
The factors hole between Norris and Piastri now sits at simply eight factors because the Briton slowly claws again his confidence after a profitable Austrian marketing campaign every week in the past.
Zak Brown commented to Sky Sports activities following the race.
“The protection automobile appeared prefer it was referred to as in a bit late. The chief controls… I believe Max accelerated, Oscar braked, which made it look worse than it was. The telemetry didn't seem like it regarded on TV. However it's what it's,” he stated.
“I believe any time you get into these penalties, there's a component of subjectivity. I believe after they're pounding on the brakes, they're 130-140psi, so attempting to get temperature within the tyres, it's moist, late name – a detailed one.”
